Bill Smith, the 2018 Bowls England President, who has recently moved to Devon, brought a Bowls England team to play against Ilfracombe BC and Bowls Devon. The Ilfracombe match celebrated their Club’s 125th Anniversary and also the laying of a new green. Players from ten Counties took part in the match which the President declared as a draw after some “very creative accounting”!
On the following day against Bowls Devon at Topsham BC, players from thirteen Counties represented Bowls England. The game saw both sides winning on three rinks and the result was 116-116, thanks to the Bowls Devon Chairman picking up two shots on the final end. In her speech at the meal after the game, President Vicky, whose rink of the Bowls Devon Presidential team had been soundly beaten (and that’s being kind!) by President Bill’s rink, threatened to write to Bitton Park BC asking them to revoke Bill’s membership!
Carol, and her team of helpers, served up a first-class meal and, as ever, the hospitality at Topsham was excellent. Two very enjoyable and successful occasions were had by all those who took part.
