DEVON JUST MISS OUT ON A FOURTH CONSECUTIVE TITLE

After a comprehensive 51 shot victory over Buckinghamshire in the semi-final, Devon faced Leicestershire in the final of the Middleton Cup.When all ends had been completed, the score was tied at 119-119, and all the rinks went back on to the green to play an extra end. Unfortunately for Devon, one of the Leicestershire rinks picked up five shots on the extra end and this went a long way to securing a 9-1 victory on the five extra ends that were completed. Devon had won the title for the last three years, and it was Leicestershire’s first victory since 1964.
It was a win-win” situation for Bowls England President, Bill Smith, who has recently moved from Leicestershire to Devon.
