LUNCH ENJOYED BY “THE PASTIES”……..

29 Past Presidents, Life Members and Honorary Members of Bowls Devon, along with half of the 2020 Presidential team, and guests attended the twentieth Christmas Luncheon held recently at the Padbrook Park, Cullompton. The proceeds of the raffle held, amounting to £170, will be sent to the Devon Air Ambulance.
The Men’s Association, with its members often referred to as “Pasties” was formed in 2000, and this followed on from the Ladies’ Association which had been formed in 1992. The idea for forming the Associations arose from the fact that it was felt by many that an individual completed their term of office as President and then disappeared often never to be seen or heard of again. One of the founding Lady Members was Maureen Robertson , and her husband, Ron, was involved in the founding of the Men’s Association. In 2004 the Past Presidents from the Indoor game were invited to join, and complete unification was achieved when the Men’s and Ladies’ Associations amalgamated at the 2018 A.G.M. The experience gained whilst being in office can be very useful in encouraging others to become County President. The Association’s Secretary mentioned at he 2019 A.G.M. that, as of early October, there were no nominations for any of the Presidential offices for the DCLIBA, and she had offered the support of the Past Presidents if it was required. Bowls will struggle to survive if everyone just relies on the willing few to do all the work.
At present, the Association has an indoor fixture at Mid Devon in March and two outdoor fixtures against Bowls Devon and Crediton B.C. It must count as one of the few organisations where the subscriptions have not gone up in the past fifteen years, remaining at £5! If any Past President, Man or Lady, Indoor or Outdoor, wishes to join the Association or, having lost contact, to rejoin, please contact the Secretary Maureen Robertson.
