Just under 150 people attended this year’s Annual Lunch and Presentation of Awards which was held once again at the Langstone Cliff Hotel. It was a very enjoyable meal, and this year there were plenty of staff on duty. Many thanks to Carol and all the people who helped in the organisation and smooth running of the event.

President Colin, in proposing the Toast to Bowls England, welcomed the guests who were Hazel Marke from Hampshire, the Bowls England Junior Vice-President, Christine Hore, the Bowls Cornwall Administrator, and Shirley Coad, the 2015 Bowls Cornwall President. Colin outlined the role that Bowls England plays and he mentioned the important work of the Bowls Development Alliance.

In her reply to the Toast, Hazel Marke mentioned a visit that Bowls England had made to North Tawton B.C. in June for the opening of their new Clubhouse. I was present as Bowls Devon Senior Vice-President in 2015 when Presidents Margaret and John dug out the first of the turves and Margaret made the quip about “two old sods digging out the first sod”. Hazel went on to mention and congratulate all the participants from Bowls Devon in the British Isles Championships, the Home Internationals and the National finals at Leamington.

Lee Haywood and James Webber were presented with Certificates for having played 100 Middleton Cup games. These were presented by David Tucker, the Middleton Cup Manager, who also made a presentation to President Colin for his support to the team during the past three years.
