Safeguarding

Bowls Devon has direct responsibility for the welfare of those involved in bowls activities organised by the County.

The Bowls Devon Safeguarding officer is

Bill Smith

07791 655193

As the lead safeguarding officer for Devon, Bill is available to receive reports of safeguarding concerns and to support club safeguarding officers.

Bowls Devon has implemented effective county level procedures in accordance with the approved Bowls England Safeguarding Bowls Policy, including the promotion of education and training across the county.

Bowls England works in partnership with the Bowls Development Alliance, English Indoor Bowling Association Ltd, English Short Mat Bowling Association, English Bowling Federation and the British Crown Green Bowling Association to provide relevant safeguarding advice and training to Clubs and County Associations.

All clubs must ensure they have Safeguarding procedures in place.

This includes:
* Clubs should complete the “Club Checklist” to help them identify areas of development within the
club, with the support of the County and/or National Governing Body
* Clubs should communicate relevant information about the Safeguarding in Bowls Policy and
procedures to all their members
* By 2025 all Clubs must appoint a Safeguarding Officer
* Anyone who is involved in Safeguarding must have attended a training course relevant to this role
It is however recognised that all clubs are different and guidelines need to be adapted to suit each
case.

To assist Clubs a range of templates are available to download from the Bowls England website where Safeguarding appears on the menu and below is a printable template for a Safeguarding Witness Statement.
